    5. Curls

    A bit about the brand:

CURLS was founded by Mahisha Dellinger, a former Marketing Manager at a Fortune 500 Company. Disenchanted with the lack of natural hair products with quality ingredients and dependability, Mahisha sought to create a new brand that resonates with women like her. Our CEO collaborated with leading cosmetic and wellness experts to develop CURLS. Our CEO’s desire was to create a remarkable, high quality, natural hair care line for an overlooked audience. The extensive chemistry background from her team of expert formulators and the niche of catering to natural hair women proved to be a winning combination that continues its trajectory today.

    -CEO, Mahisha Dellinger

    6. Dr. Locs

    A bit about the brand:

Chimere Faulk, originally became known as the The Natural Hair Lady for her skills as a natural hair stylist and loctician in the Atlanta area. She taught people to love their natural beauty, traveled across the country to service clients, and trained fellow hair stylists, infusing them with her passion for locs and loose natural hair. Although she suggested the best natural hair products on the shelves at that time, her clients with locs would continuously be disappointed by the results. Those products created buildup. The beauty industry was bursting with new natural products—none of which were designed specifically for locs. Even if they were marketed for locs, they just did not work; buildup consistently was created within locs. Unlike loose natural hair, locs/dredlocks try to “hold on to product.” With loose hair, product can be washed out easily. One day she had enough and decided to use her knowledge of hair to do solve this problem. During the year of 2013 and 2014, she researched and developed Dr Locs while servicing her clients. In January 2015, she officially opened drlocs.com.

    A bit about the brand:
As the old adage goes, “necessity is the mother of invention/when there’s a will there’s a way.” This exact sentiment is what drove Jasmine Lawrence to launch EDEN BodyWorks back in 2004. After facing her first beauty challenge — a hair-damaging chemical burn — at age 11, Lawrence was shocked to learn about the lack of natural products that could help nurture and restore her hair. So, in true entrepreneurial fashion, she took to her kitchen and began concocting her own remedies. For over a decade, coming up with straightforward solutions aimed at common, everyday beauty concerns has been EDEN’s promise to you. Inspired by nature, we offer quality products that treat and maintain the hair and body’s original design. Each of our collections combine the transformative power of benefit-rich ingredients known to deliver the best results. So no matter what you’re facing — whether it be tricky split ends or dry, dull skin — we’ve got you covered at an unbeatable price!
    -CEO, Jasmine Lawrence
    A bit about the brand:
My name is Camille. I’m the founder of GirlandHair. As a former marketing professional turned doctor, I sought out to find healthy products to care for my natural hair after my “big chop”. Because of my busy life style, protective styling has always been a great solution. Depending on the season or work schedule ahead, I would choose a preferred protective style, such as hair extensions, crochet braids, wigs, braids, or weaves. However, I soon realized there was simply no natural hair care product specifically created to maintain and grow my natural hair while it was put away in a braided protective style. The different natural hair care products on the market simply did not meet the challenge of utility and convenience. For years, I was wearing protective styles but I always found it difficult to properly cleanse and moisturize my natural hair while wearing hair extensions, resulting in dry and brittle hair and experiencing extensive breakage. Furthermore, I understood that maintaining my natural hair should be easy and more convenient. In fact, “wash day” should never take all day. Based on my personal frustration and armed with my medical knowledge and desire to find the best ingredients for optimal hair health, the idea of a product line to maintain natural hair underneath hair extensions was born.
    -CEO, Dr. Camille Verovic

    A bit about the brand:
We do this by calling on our scientific expertise and clinical experience. We do this by knowing the unique needs and preferences of our customers. We do this by delivering products that actually work and are accessible and enjoyable to smell, feel, and use all year long. In her career as a Board-Certified Dermatologist, Shari helps people with many different types of skin conditions, including diseases of the scalp and hair. She realized that scalp irritation is a major gateway issue leading to hair loss. Her patients with textured kinky and curly hair had the most difficulty finding relief from their scalp conditions and often objected to how their hair looked and felt with prescription shampoos and topical therapies. She saw the embarrassment and emotional stress that this caused, so she created a solution. A solution to help people live so healthily, confidently, and beautifully.
    -CEO, Shari Hicks Graham
    A little bit about me:
Founded in 2013 by Mary-Andree Ardouin-Guerrier, during her transition to a more holistic and healthier lifestyle. The journey began once her son had been diagnosed with a multitude of food allergies, she had just lost one of her close aunts to an aggressive form of ovarian cancer, and at the time her maternal grandmother was battling countless chronic health diseases. After relinquishing her use of toxic chemical hair straighteners, she chopped off all her hair to grow it out and embrace her natural hair texture. She started researching holistic ingredients that were used across the globe for hair growth and healthy hair management. She also wanted to incorporate spices because of what she learned about them through her West Indian heritage. After coming up with the right unique blend, the hair oil was born. Around the same time, she got accepted a graduate program at Columbia University in health education. Now as she nears the final stages of her dissertation, she has decided to revive the oil to be better than it has ever been. Giving birth to our Revitalizing Organic Hair Oil.

    A bit about the company:

My name’s Whitney, otherwise known as Naptural85 on Youtube! I’m a Graphic Designer, Vlogger, Blogger, and Natural Hair Enthusiast! I’m also a proud mother of two great kids Olivia, and Theo and one kitty named Bella! #meow. I started my Youtube Channel on August 8, 2009 and never intended on making more than one video! I’m not sure why I chose the name “Naptural85″… I suppose it was funny at the time and since I wasn’t intending on making more than one video, it didn’t really matter… well, lesson learned, because now I’m stuck with it, lol! My very first upload was of my “Natural Hair Journey” (my transition from relaxed to natural hair) and was only meant to be a ‘thank you’ to those on Youtube who had inspired me to take the leap. But I was soon finding that people were inspired by my own story and was encouraged to upload more.Around that time on Youtube, there weren’t many 4a, curly-haired women sharing their stories of what worked for their hair and what didn’t, so I wanted to make sure I shared as much as possible in hopes of being able to help someone else with my type of hair. I found myself in the bathroom thinking, “Hey, this could help someone!” and quickly grabbing the camera to record.I was addicted! Every time someone commented on a video letting me know that it had helped them, it just fueled my fire to keep going; it just felt good to help! So, here I am years later, still sharing my journey, and couldn’t be more happy with my decision to go natural! I’ve branched out and started making lifestyle videos as well! You can catch them on my second and third channels DearNaptural85 and the self titled Whitney White channel!Anyway, thanks again for stopping by my site! I hope you enjoy what you see!

The history of Rucker Roots runs deep as it stems from the Rucker family name and several people in the family who have contributed to the thought behind the brand. From their paternal grandfather’s garden in South Carolina, to their paternal grandmother who was a hair model in Atlanta, GA during the 1930’s, the founders of the brand have had many influences throughout their lives that led to them creating a brand that embraces healthy hair and styling options. Dating back to the early 1980s, the Rucker sister’s mother used vegetables from the family garden along with oils, mayonnaise, eggs, and avocados to mix up kitchen concoctions to include in their hair regimen. This helped the sisters develop an appreciation for natural hair care products, the value of family and importance of their heritage and strong roots. Later in life when the owners Ellen and Ione became mothers, they desired for their daughters to love and appreciate their natural hair and have the products available to keep their hair healthy. These events lead to them creating Rucker Roots. The brand was first introduced in 2015 on the sister’s reality TV show Love Thy Sister on WeTV.

    A bit about the brand:

I made SKIMDO so that I could keep the ringlety, voluminous complexity of my natural hair, but also have the swish, the shine, the effortlessness I always admired in straight hair. It’s a cream I work through my wet curls (here’s how) that holds them in flexible, soft suspension. It’s weight, but without weight. Gleam without stickiness. Control without residue. I choose how big and how long I go. The revolutionary part:It’s the first and only product in the world to do all of this for up to SEVEN DAYS without any of the nasty stuff I don’t want in my hair, skin and lungs. No parabens, no formaldehyde, no sulphates, no trendy ‘buzz’ ingredients. After years of working up to eight products through my hair every morning, and carrying half a drugstore with me everywhere I went, I will never get bored of the feeling of waking up – day after day after day – with the most amazing hair. It smells d i v i n e. Fresh, clean, deodorised and endlessly sniffable. Between treatments, I use a little as a dry conditioner to refresh my hair. Post party, post work-out etc.  OH and the pack looks beautiful. When creating the branding, I’d always wanted something discreet and minimal on my dressing table – something ergonomic and timeless. So if you have hair that’s dry, overwhelming, processed or color-treated, with curls that won’t work as a team, I think you’ll love SKIMDO.

With a complete line of invigorating cleansers, radiant moisturizers, strand-revitalizing conditioners, and more “yummy smelling” hair and body care goodies, Soultanicals addresses the specific challenges of multi-textured hair care.

My name is Susan Edwards and I founded Uhai with my husband Varsay Sirleaf. I am a Chicago south sider by origin, but have had the opportunity to live on the African continent – in both Kenya and Liberia – for eight years. I gained a second home there and what I miss the most is the women in my husband’s family. The way my aunties can command a room upon entering is unparalleled – their confidence and self worth have not been defined by western standards like my own. Uhai is my love letter to the continent and these women. As a former chemical engineer, I love developing products that showcase the powerful botanics sourced from the continent. But most importantly, I want our products to give you the confidence to walk AND live unabashedly like my aunties.

    26. Unigurl

    A bit about the brand:

Uniqurl was developed by Registered Nurse, Alexis Stanley who suffered from a hair journey set back in 2016 that left her Mid-back length hair damaged and breaking.  While using products that weren’t giving her hair what it needed in this newly fragile state, she decided to start making products in her kitchen. Alexis was no stranger to the healthy hair care world as her journey began on the online forums in 2005 before the natural hair movement started!  There she took pride in helping women achieve their hair goals without asking for anything in return!  By 2017 she had begun experimenting with hundreds of ingredients that provide key things that her type 4 hair needed at that time. It wasn’t long before Alexis started using her products on her two daughters and began sharing her recipes with her followers on Instagram while giving them free healthy hair advice!  Her followers wanted more of what she was offering so Alexis decided to package her formula and put a label on it! Uniqurl was birthed out of self-less love and a desire to genuinely help others.  Our formulas are clean and free of harmful ingredients. We have sourced the best ingredients for naturally kinky hair and will continue to provide our customers with only the best!

    -CEO, Alexis Stanley
