Curling wands can make hair go from dull, to big bouncy and full of life. Curling wands are not just reserved for the straight hair girl, they also work well on naturals, from the loosest, to tightest of curls. If you are looking to add romance, fun, or just a dash of fabulous to your natural hair, we recommend trying a curling wand! Curling wands are a fun way to add a hint of flair to any natural do, however curling wands, like any other heat styling product can cause heat damage, and should be used sparingly. We recommend using a heat protectant before using any heat styling tools. Let’s get started!

1. Clean hair

Start of with clean dry hair. Wash and condition your hair with TGIN’s sulphate free shampoo and conditioner.  We also recommend deep conditioning before using heat, TGIN’s Honey miracle mask works great for deep conditioning, and detangling hair. You can blow dry, or blow dry and straighten your hair first, or to use less heat simply stretch your natural curls, by braiding or placing the hair in a ponytail until it dries. Make sure your hair is thoroughly detangled before you add any heat.

2. Section

Section your hair, ensuring that the bulk of your hair is put away. If you need to wear a glove to prevent any burning from the curling wand, do so. Begin with a small section, you can do this either from the front or back of your hair.

3. Curl

Wrap the length of your sectioned piece of hair around the length of the curling wand. Allow the hair to stay wrapped around the wand for around 10 seconds. Wrap the hair either towards our face, or away from it, depending on which way you want your curls to go. Slide the hair off of the curling wand. You do not want to leave your hair wrapped around the curling wand for longer than 15 seconds, as you may burn your hair.

Continue step three throughout the duration of your hair. Be sure you are taking small sections of your hair so your hair is able to curl fully.

5. Preserve

To ensure that hair is preserved for several days, use either the pineapple method at night (placing hair in high ponytail on top of your head) or set the hair on rollers.

Will you be trying the curling wand method this fall?
