It’s no secret that maintaining length on natural 4C hair can be quite the task. However, there are plenty of ways to not only maintain but grow long tightly coiled hair. Here are five tips to growing and maintaining hair length.

1. Routine is everything

It doesn’t matter if you are going on a fitness diet, or hair journey, every journey you take needs a plan and a solid routine that will help you stay on target with your goal. Even within your same texture family your individual hair needs may still be unique to you. It is important to find the routine that works for your hair specifically. If you find that washing your hair everyday is what works for you then do that. If washing twice monthly is a better fit than choose that method instead. One important thing to remember is moisture. Natural hair, 4C hair especially requires a ton of moisture as it is harder for the natural oils our scalp secretes to make it down the coils of tightly curled hair, it is imperative that we keep our hair moisturized to maintain length and avoid excess breakage.

2. Protective styling

Protective styling is a key element in maintaining length and preventing breakage in 4C hair. Kinky and tightly coiled has is extremely susceptible to breakage. Wearing natural hair out often can be a recipe for disaster when it comes to natural hair in general. In order to avoid excess breakage, knots and tangles that lead to split ends, keep hair protected as often as possible. Protective styles can be as simple as two french braids or an elegant up-do. Protective styling can be as fun as wearing your hair down and gives you and your hair a break from styling.

3. Deep Conditioning

As natural hair lacks moisture and 4C hair receives little natural moisture from the scalp it is important to deep condition hair to draw moisture back into the hair as well as help the detangling process, which can be gruesome. Our Honey Miracle Deep Conditioner for Natural Hair not only uses honey to draw moisture into the hair but effortlessly detangles even the most coarse of curly textures.

4. Proper Detangling

It’s easy to get frustrated when detangling hair and get a little more rough than necessary. Natural hair however should be treated very gently, especially when trying to retain length. Only detangle damp hair and start from the ends of your hair when detangling. Use a wide tooth comb, denman brush or fingers to gently detangle hair from ends to roots.

5. Moisturize

As fore mentioned moisturizing is super important to maintaining length. When protective styling don’t forget to keep hair moisturized and seal that moisture in with a carrier oil . While styling use our Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer to ensure your hair stays well moisturized throughout the day.

Utilizing these tips will help your hair flourish and maintain length.
