On our most recent trip to South Africa this fall, we hosted our very first natural hair meetup in Africa in Johannesburg at Lacuna Urban Bistro at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton on Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm.
Over 50 guest joined us for a wonderful afternoon of cocktails (Strawberry Ginger Mojitos), and came ready to learn more about the tgin Moist Collection for Natural Hair, which will hopefully be available on the continent sometime next year. Â Each guest was treated to a sample pack of the tgin Moist Collection for Natural Hair, featuring our Moisture Rich Sulfate Free Shampoo, Triple Moisture Replenishing Conditioner, Honey Miracle Hair Mask, and Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer. Although not featured as part of the Moist Collection, guests were given the opportunity to sample our Twist and Define Cream and Argan Replenishing Hair Serum.
While the food and cocktails were great, meeting my sisters on the other side of the pond was fantastic. It was amazing to swap hair stories with women from South Africa, and at the same time humbling to learn that Thank God I’m Natural: The Ultimate Guide to Caring for Natural Hair, a book I wrote nearly 5 years ago had the power to change a lot of woman’s lives and cause them to go natural.
Note, we plan to be in Cameroon/Senegal in December, so Dakar mark your calendars! #tginafrica

Our guest enjoying this beautiful spring day.
I totally fell in love with this cutie and wanted to bring her back to Chicago with me.
When I wrote this book four tears ago, I had no idea that women everywhere would relate to my struggle for self acceptance.
Gift bags for all of our guest. Just a nice little way to say goodbye, but a reminder that we will be back.
Looking forward to keeping in touch.
