You have probably head about eating fruits and veggies on the news or in the papers under the health section.  However, we want to show you a different take on fruits and how they can benefit your natural hair.

Strawberries, pineapples, kiwis, melons and apples are great for the body and the hair!  Did you know that bananas have a protein called Biotin that can promote hair growth and reduce your chances of hair loss? Surprised?  I was too!

But if you are still not convinced, try eating dark colored fruits.  The darker the fruit, the more antioxidants it contains. Think cherries, blueberries, red grapes and blackberries.  Antioxidants are excellent at slowing the damage of body tissues and helping to reduce your risk of certain cancers and other severe health problems.

Out of all of these delicious fruits, the winner above all is avocado.  Shocked?  Don’t be, because there is good reason for it. The avocado works as a natural moisturizer and we all know the importance of moisturizing our hair.  It also helps repair damaged hair and works as a great deep conditioner and natural sunscreen.  Fruit can also be a much cheaper and healthier option than many over-the-counter drugs and retail products. So why not give them a try?

If you like “do it yourself” methods, we would suggest trying one of our favorite recipes for an Avocado Hair mask.

What about you?  What are your favorite fruits and why?
