Many  women with natural hair complain that their hair simply is not growing despite the measures they’ve taken to achieve noticeable hair growth. In most cases the hair is growing, it is just breaking at a faster pace then it is growing, which makes it very hard to notice any hair growth is happening at all. Here are five reasons why it may appear as if your natural hair is not growing.

1. Clogged pores

Clogged pores actually can stop the oxygen needed in your scalp for hair to grow. If you are constantly greasing your scalp with hair grease that contains petroleums or mineral oils your scalp can become overwhelmed and prevent hair from growing as rapidly as a clean scalp. If you feel your scalp is constantly dry switch your shampoo. Stay away from shampoos that contain drying sulphates and parabens and start using tgin’s Moisture Rich Sulphate Free Shampoo and Triple Moisture Replenishing Conditioner. Also you may need to co-wash more and shampoo less frequently if you notice your scalp is dry after shampooing. Instead of using heavy hair grease on your scalp switch to carrier oils such as grape seed oil, jojoba oil, apricot oil and try our Argan Replenishing Hair and Body Serum which is great for adding light moisture to the hair and body.

2.Hair is rapidly shedding

If your hair is shedding at a rapid pace, it may seem like your hair never grows and is always at the same length. Sometimes rapid hair shedding can be caused due to something missing in your diet such as enough water or iron. Start drinking more water and cut back on fruit juices, soda, and alcohol. Add more leafy green vegetables to your diet which are high in fiber as well as iron and you should notice less shedding.  If after several weeks of doing this you still notice excessive shedding contact your physician as this could be a sign of a health issue.

3. Excessive Breakage

Breakage is usually caused by excessive manipulation, improper detangling, or styling. Remember to detangle your hair gently while wet with either your fingers or a wide toothed comb. Start from the ends of your hair and work your way up. Excessive styling can also cause breakage. If you are constantly braiding and unbraiding your hair, combing or brushing your hair it can become damaged and break. Opt for low maintenance hair styles and get trims as needed.

4. Health Disorder

Some women don’t realize that their hair isn’t growing due to a health disorder. If you have unexplained rapid shedding, sores on your scalp, sudden thinning hair, it could be due to a health issue. Contact your physician if you feel like any of these issues could be due to health matter.

5. Extremely Matted Hair

Unfortunately natural hair can sometimes become matted and tangled  very easily. Matted hair can cause hair to appear as if it is not growing as well as make it extremely difficult to detangle causing needed breakage. Be sure to detangle hair each and every time you wash it and do light detangling in between wash time if your hair is easily susceptible to tangling.
