High Fashion Collard Greens for Sale

By | life + style | No Comments

In the words of Luke Cage, Sweet Christmas!

The last time I checked, which was yesterday when I was in Ralphs on a shopping excursion to make a soul food vegan meal, greens were only about 99 cents a lb. Not $66 to feed 8-10 people, cue Neiman Marcus.
So if you haven’t heard, not only can you buy a CHANEL bag and Gucci flip flops you can now purchase what Neiman Marcus calls “collard greens seasoned with just the right amount of seasonings and bacon”.
First off Neiman Marcus, what exactly is the right amount of seasonings and bacon? Who gave you this idea? Seriously, who told Neiman Marcus it was cool to start selling collard greens?
What’s next, Chitterlings with just the right amount of hot sauce? By the way who exactly is going to be purchasing these over priced perfectly seasoned Neiman Marcus greens?
Who Sway and how? Sadly, I don’t think Sway even has the answers. I’m not sure how well these greens are going to be selling over the holidays but my guess is they won’t be selling out like Patties Sweet Potato Pies. I’m just saying. Everything isn’t for everybody but who knows maybe, just maybe, they are actually good.
Would you buy them?

More Diversity for Barbie

By | life + style | No Comments

It looks like Barbie is evolving. After 55 years, the dolls we spent countless hours playing with are changing for the better.
Mattel has announced that little girls will have more choices when it comes to the iconic doll. Now your little one can choose between 4 body types (standard, petite, tall, and, curvy), 7 skin tones, 22 eye colors, and 24 hairstyles.
(Photo: Courtesy Barbie).
Mattel says the change is “radical”.  Senior Design Director Robert Best said, “This is radical because we’re saying there isn’t this narrow standard of what a beautiful body looks like. This is what the world looks like.”
We agree!
Here’s what the team that created the new dolls has to say about the vision:

Titi Branch, Co-Founder of Miss Jessie’s Natural Hair Care Line, Dead at 45

By | hair + beauty, life + style | No Comments

Our hearts and prayers go out to the Branch family.
The Washington Post has reported that Titi Branch, 45, one of the co-founders of the super popular natural hair care line, Miss Jessie’s, died Dec. 4.  Titi’s death was  the result of an apparent suicide but that has yet to be confirmed.
Titi, who we all knew for her famous crown of fluffy blonde curls, was credited with creating Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding, one of the brand’s signature products, and being the business mind behind the operations. Along with her sister Miko, they opened their  first salon dedicated to curly hair back in 1997 in Brooklyn, and launched their product line, named for their grandmother, in 2004. With a powerhouse marketing team, Miss Jessie’s Baby Butter Cream and the Super Sweetback Treatment gained a cult like following and become a favorite of many natural-hair celebrities like Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry. Who could ever forget, “The Best Damn Curly Pudding, Period!
Miss Jessie’s was an inspiration to us all.  They were without a doubt the leaders of the pack when it came to natural hair care, becoming one of the first major hair care lines to gain distribution in  Target, making products for natural hair more readily available and mainstream. Even today, Miss Jessie’s can be found in Wal-Mart and major drug store chains, such as CVS, Walgreen’s, and Duane Reade, pioneering the way for other entrepreneurs like myself to follow in their footsteps.
“I get so inspired when people meet us,” Titi Branch told Ozy last December. “It’s just a hair product but to them it’s so much more. It has such an impact.”
We will always remember you Titi. Your legacy lives on. You are gone, but never will you be forgotten.

Solange Knowles Marries Alan Ferguson this Weekend in New Orleans

By | life + style | No Comments

Singer, fashionista, and Beyonce’s younger sister Solange, 28, tied the know with her director fiancé Alan Ferguson, 51, this weekend. The two who’ve been engaged since June, have been very good about keeping things private, so it’s to be expected that the wedding would be kept low key.
The entire wedding party and guest donned all-white with Queen Bey, 33, in a short, fitted white dress. Solange sported a stunning Humberto Leon for Kenzo floor-length gown with an attached cape.
House of Dereon designer Mama Knowles, 60, kept it classy in a long-sleeve, floor length gown. Earlier in the day, Solange and her fiance rode white bikes through New Orleans while she wore a white Stephane Rolland jumpsuit. She then changed into her gown for the ceremony in the Holy Trinity Church in the Bywater area. ok
This will be Solange’s second marriage. She was previously married to Daniel Smith and has a 10-year-old son, Julez from the union.

Congrats to Solange and Alan. May you have many years of happiness!

And then there was the after party. Solange Knowles and her new husband led the way in a second line parade, a New Orleans tradition, joined by Beyonce and Jay Z.  The couple danced the night away with friends and family, making us  jealous that we weren’t invited.
