The First Black Marie in the Nutcracker Hits the Stage

NYC Ballet has cast their first black Marie in the Nutcracker. The production which started in 1954 will star 11 year old Charlotte Nebres. The talented young student at the school of American Ballet says she’s inspired by Misty Copeland and was surprised when she found out she would be the first black Marie to star in the Nutcracker.

Nebres who is of trinidadian and Phillipine descent says that though she is the first black Marie she hopes that she is not the last!
