Summer’s almost over but it’s not too late for a dip in the pool while the warm weather lasts. Have questions about protecting your hair while swimming? We have answers!

Q: Do I need to protect my natural hair every time I go swimming?

A: If you only swim occasionally, maybe once or twice a year, feel free to jump in the water without protection. Your hair will be fine; just make sure that you shampoo and condition your hair after.

Q: I only swim occassionaly, but want a low maintenance method to protect my strands while swimming anyway.

A: If you swim from time to time but still want to protect your hair before diving in the water, spritz it with water first then apply your favorite conditioner and oil for sealant. Put your hair into a ponytail, bun, or rock a lose puff and after you are done swimming be sure to wash and condition.

Q: What is the best way to protect my natural hair if I swim frequently?

A: For our professional swimmers out there you will need to prepare your hair for the harsh chlorine or salt water because this constant exposure can be damaging. Before every swim, coat your hair with conditioner and oil based sealant and style hair in protective twisted or braided style. If you are looking for less maintenance, pull hair into ponytail. Instead of shampooing after every swim, use a cleansing conditioner. Limit shampooing to once a week.

And there you all are, simply steps to protecting your natural while swimming! Hope you all have fun in the sun while the Summer lasts!
