So it’s understandable if your scalp gets ignored in all of the fuss to fight frizz, moisturize, detangle, and experiment with different products and styling methods for the ‘perfect’ curl. However, for as long as you spend on your natural hair every day, it’s important to spend some of that time giving your scalp some well deserved love! If you can’t remember the last time you exfoliated your scalp, these are 10 reasons why you should reconsider adding scalp scrub to your regular regimen.

1. Cleanse Build Up

Exfoliating helps deep clean your scalp removing access build up that regular shampoo or cleaning products might not be strong enough to remove. Build up is never a good thing. It clogs your pores, slows growth and can cause itchy scalp.

2. Fight Dandruff

Scrubbing your scalp is a great way to combat dandruff. For an added dandruff fighting boost, try mixing in your favorite exfoliant (or sugar, salt, or coffee grounds) in with a medicated shampoo or a few drops of tingling tea tree and peppermint oils.

3. Fight Flakes & Dead Cells

The number one reason why anyone exfoliates any part of the body? To lift and remove dead skin. This is so important especially if you are attempting to grow your hair. Out with the old (dead) cells…so your scalp can be in with the new!

4. Soothe Itchiness

Many times, itchiness is caused from build up and/or flakes. Get rid of the gunk caked onto your scalp and feel like an all new woman or man — itch free. An added bonus? Scrubbing your scalp feels like a well deserved head massage.

5. Prevent Hair Loss

Taking time to scrub your scalp can help maintain a healthy head of hair overall, and help prevent excessive hair loss.

6. Save Money

Scrubbing your scalp is not only easy, but can be very inexpensive and very simple to DIY! Simply add a few spoonfuls of white sugar, brown sugar, coffee grounds, or salt to your favorite shampoo or oil (if you’re a no poo curly girl). This is far less expensive than chemical based build up removers.

7. Fight Acne

Your scalp is also prone to acne! Scrubbing your scalp from time to time helps ensure a deeper clean, which treats and prevents scalp acne, pimples and white heads.

8. Add Shine

Scrubbing away buildup is a great way to add shine and lustre to your curls. Overtime, product build up can leave curls looking flat, dry and dull. Exfoliating your scalp helps scrub your hair strands as well so your hair shafts and scalp will look as good as it feels.

9. No Poo

Exfoliating your scalp is a great way to cleans your hair and scalp with out the use of shampoo. Simply add brown sugar (or your favovrite exfoliant) to any natural cleaner (like ACV) or oil and scrub your scalp and rinse before conditioning.

10. Quicker Wash Time

Boosting your shampoo with natural exfoliants will make wash time all the more effective. You’ll have a squeaky clean scalp in no Time!
